PM donates Rs 50,000 for Leh cloudbursts victims

New Delhi, Sep 1: Weeks after announcing a Rs 125 crore relief package for Leh cloudburst victims, the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has now donated Rs 50,000 for the rehabilitation of the people hit by the devastating calamity in Aug 2010.

President Pratibha Patil has also donated Rs 1 lakh from her personal fund to the Prime Minister"s National Relief Fund to fuel the rehabilitation efforts.

On visiting the Himalayan town following the cloudbursts, Dr Singh had promised that all houses destroyed by the natural calamity will be reconstructed within the next two-and-a-half months.

On Aug 5 and Aug 6, Leh was battered by heavy downpour which led to flash floods and mudslides leading to as many as 175 deaths. While over 400 people were injured, the region in the state of Jammu Kashmir suffered widespread damage.
