Karachi, Aug 30(ANI): Pakistan on Monday released 100 Indian fishermen from Karachi's Malir prison.

According to reports, about 442 Indian fishermen who have completed their prison sentences will be released in four batches. This is the first batch.

The batch, which left the prison for Lahore by road on Monday morning, will be handed over to Indian officials at the Wagah border on Tuesday, The Dawn reports.

Another group of 100 fishermen will leave the prison on September 2, and cross the Wagah border the following day.

The third batch of 101 prisoners will leave the city on September 4, while the last batch of 141 prisoners will leave on September 6.

This comes in the wake of a direction by the Pakistan Supreme Court to the federal government to ascertain the reasons behind keeping the Indian fishermen in jails even after the completion of their sentences. (ANI)
