New York, Aug 28: Indian tennis ace, Sania Mirza has managed to book a place for herself in main draw of the upcoming high profile US Open tournament.
Unseeded Sania beat her Columbian opponent Catalina Castano 6—1, 1—6 , 6—3 in a one hour and 48 minutes-long final round qualifier battle.
It has been over four years since the Indian, plagued by a recurrent wrist injury, has sailed through the qualifiers into a Grand Slam.
Her last big breakthrough was in 2005 at Australian Open. It was in the same year that Sania put up her best show at the US Open by reaching up to the pre-quarterfinals.
