Mumbai, Aug 28: A fire scare led to chaotic scenes at the Mumbai airport on Friday, Aug 27 evening, when passengers onboard a Chennai-bound Jet Airways flight were asked to evacuate through emergency chutes.

The sudden call for evacuation caused panic leading to as many as 15 passengers sustaining injuries.

The incident took place at around 9: 30 pm when flight 9W2302 with 144 passengers onboard aborted take-off after the pilot suspected a break out of fire.

The pilot reportedly saw indications of a spark in one of the aircraft's engine when it was on the taxiway and immediately deployed the evacuation chutes.

As the passengers of the flight, which was already 45 minutes behind schedule, were asked to evacuate, panic struck them as they rushed towards the inflatable chutes.

While many reports suggest that 15 people were injured, there are reports that upto 26 people were hurt in the incident. The injured have been admitted at Nanavati Hospital and Sujoy Hospital.
