Kashmir valley misses its hustle-bustle on 64th Independence Day

Srinagar, Aug.15 (ANI): Even as the country celebrated its 64th Independence Day on Sunday (Aug.15), the Kashmir Valley was devoid of its routine hustle bustle as curfew continued in the region.

The situation remained tense since two more youths being killed in police firing on Saturday (August 14).

On Friday, the State authorities resorted to re-impose curfew in Srinagar on Friday (August 13) after separatist outfits, who have called for a boycott of the Independence Day celebrations, threatened to hold protest marches in the city.

The authorities beefed up security especially in and around Bakshi stadium, where the State Chief Omar Abdullah was scheduled to attend independence day celebrations and hoist the national flag.

The Kashmir valley is witnessing a surge of violence that has led the authorities to impose frequent curfew restrictions in several parts of the state. By Parvez Butt (ANI)
