Arjun speaks on Bhopal gas tragedy in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi, Aug 11: Arjun Singh, who was the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh during Bhopal gas tragedy 1984, finally talked on the controversy over the trial court's judgment in the case.

Arjun Singh was giving his speech from a prepared statement on the events of 1984 in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, Aug 11.

Singh said that he was ready to quit from CM's post after the gas tragedy but he was restrained by the then Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi.

According to Singh, Rajiv Gandhi told him that no one was blaming him (Singh) for the tragedy.

He also stated that he ensured that then-Union Carbide chairman, Warren Anderson was arrested when he arrived in Bhopal four days after the tragedy in 1984.
