Kolkata, Aug 9: On the dazzling performance from Kerala boy Denson Devadas, Bengal thrashed Punjab 2-1 to lift the Santhosh Trophy for a record 30 times at Yuba Bharati Krirangan on home turf on Sunday, Aug 8.
Even though Punjab was the first to score at the 30th minute, Denson stuck twice for Bengal ending the state's 11 year drought in the 64th National Football Championship.
While Balwant Singh drilled the ball into the net half an hour into the match, Denson was not far along with his first goal, which came at the minute of the half-time break at 45th+2nd minute.
Denson later clinched the victory for Bengal with his second goal at 78th minute.
Denson's performance is plausible as he proved his might by scoring the goals while single-handedly taking care of Begal's strike as the team was missing Shankar Oraon and Nilendra Dewan.
While the absence of the attacking duo was very evident in the first half, the Kerala lad definitely covered it up with his winning strikes.
