Leh rescue suspeded due to rains
Srinagar, Aug 7: Heavy rains lashed Leh on Saturday, Aug 7 forcing the suspension of rescue and relief operations in the Himalayan town, where a series of cloudbursts triggered off flash floods killing as many as 115 people.

“Heavy rains have forced us to suspend the rescue operations in Leh town. The moment weather improves, the rescue and relief operations would be restarted," a senior official told a news agency.

While 115 dead bodies have been recovered so far, as many as 350 people are said to have been injured. The death toll is expected to rise as the situation in several remote villages is yet to be assessed.

Union Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, who was scheduled to visit the disaster-hit region with a group of doctors and paramedics on Saturday, Aug 7 has also been delayed due to the bad weather.
