Technical teams moved to games venues: Lalit Bhanot

New Delhi, Aug 3 (ANI): Lalit Bhanot, the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (CGOC), has said the designated technical teams for the Commonwealth Games have been shifted to respective games stadia and the work on overlays has commenced.

Talking to reporters here on Monday, Bhanot said: " Our entire staff of around 700 people has shifted to the stadiums and a formal take over of the venues will begin from today.

" The venue operation teams have already started the work from there but this is the formal thing that it comes the total control of the stadiums (stadia) come with the OC (Organising Committee). Earlier it was with the venue owner but our teams were there, they were given a place to sit but now the entire operation will be in the hands of the OC," he added.

Commenting on the approaching deadline, he confidently said that they were ready to host the games.

"We are ready to host Games as far as technical conduct of the Games is concerned. The overlay work has already started since our teams are there for the last 15 days. We will get most of the stadiums by August 15 and remaining by August 30," he added.

Bhanot said the OC would ask the venue owners to provide all the necessary clearances along with the stadiums.

"All the mandatory clearances like safety of the building, fire certificate, power certificate will be provided to us by the venue owners," he added.

India is expecting about two million tourists in New Delhi for the Games, as well as about 10,000 athletes from 71 teams representing 54 Commonwealth member states.

The Commonwealth Games 2010 will be held from October 3 to 14 in New Delhi. (ANI)
