New smartphone buyers recommend Android over Apple
Portland, Aug 3: A new survey among United States' new smartphone users revealed that the Google Inc"s Android software surpassed Apple Inc"s mobile operating system.
The survey conducted by Nielsen Co in the second quarter that ended on Friday, Jul 30 reveals that Android had 27 percent of the US market and the Apple iPhone OS, known as iOS, had 23 percent.
Nielsen survey revealed that the Research In Motion Ltd dominates the leading position with 33 percent share.
The survey also reported that the Android"s share among all US smartphone subscribers rose to 13 percent from 2 percent.
"There is a massive hunger for smartphones, and the Android universe came out not just with one blockbuster device but with a whole series of blockbuster devices," said Roger Entner, head of telecom research at Nielsen.
Different smartphone manufactures like Motorola Inc and HTC Corp used Android in a wider range of handsets, which gave more options to the new smartphone purchasers.
