Condoms to be made available at Commonwealth Games

By Samyuktha

New Delhi, Aug 3: The National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) is busy arranging the distribution of condoms at the Commonwealth Games venues, games village, nearby hotels and other areas in a bid to thwart any possibility of HIV/AIDS spreading on the sidelines of the international sporting event

NACO secretary K Chandramouli informed that free condoms will be given to players and team officials to prevent the spread of the dreaded sexually transmitted disease (STD).

“The National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) is considering distributing free condoms to players and other accompanying members of the teams, aiming to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS during the Games," the NACO director general announced on Monday, Aug 2

Besides this, about 200 automatic condom vending machines are also expected to be installed at venues and the games village so that people can avail the contraceptive at Rs 5 apiece.

“We are in talks with the state (Delhi) government and other civic authorities to rope in manpower to put up the condom vending machines," he added.
