Hyderabad, Jul 30: In the single constituency, where the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) was not leading, Congress suffered a drubbing in the hands of Bharaitya Janata Party (BJP) as its state president D Srinivas failed to claim his home turf.
Srinivas lost Nizamabad urban constituency by a margin of 12,600 votes to BJP's Y Lakshminarayana. Srinivas had earlier express confidence that he will win the constituency with the support of sizeable minority vote bank.
Interestingly, Lakshminarayana has retained the seat that he had given up to press for separate state status for Telangana.
This only goes on to show that the kind of pro-Telangana sentiments that has taken over the by polls 2010.
TRS, the party that is pushing for the formation of the Telganana state, is leading in the rest of the 11 constituencies that went into polling. Besides this, TRS had campaigned in support of BJP candidates.
