Surrender and enjoy financial aids: WB to Maoists

Kolkata, Jul 29: The West Bengal government announced surrender policy for the Maoists.

The surrender-cum-rehabilitation policy with immediate effect was announced on Wednesday, Jul 28. The surrendered Maoist guerrillas can enjoy various packages formulated by the West Bengal government and union home ministry.

The package includes a monthly stipend of Rs 2,000 for a period of three years and state government will make a fixed deposit of Rs 1.5 lakh for three years for each surrendered Maoists. The money under fixed deposits would be handed over to the rebel if he shows good conduct for three years.

The government also plans to give loans to the surrendered Maoists for doing business.

"We are also prepared to give them loans for doing business before the fixed deposit matures. The fixed deposit amount would be the security," said Bhupinder Singh, Director General of Police.

The government also declared compensation amount for surrendering weapons.

"If they surrender a machine gun they will get Rs 25,000. For an AK-47, they will get Rs 15,000, and for surrendering a revolver or a landmine we will pay Rs 3,000. For every kilogram of explosive we will pay Rs 1,000 and if they deposit a satellite phone, Rs 10,000 will be provided," DGP added.
