Love Parade stampede: Organisers under scanner
Berlin, Jul 28: The organisers of the Love Parade have come under the scanner over the death of 20 people in a stampede that broke out during the techno music festival on Saturday, Jul 24.
As criminal investigation has been launched into the incident, the organisers have been accused of flouting Germany's strict safety norms.
Besides the organisers, the authorities in the western city of Duisburg, where the ill-fated festival was held, have also been attacked for not only packing too many people in a small space but also for continuing the event even after the stampede, in which over 500 were injured.
The stampede broke out in a tunnel leading to the festival venue when people panicked. The cause of the panic is also a prime aspect of the ongoing investigations.
According to official figures, 1.4 million people attended the world's largest techno music festival.
