Sports sex scandals: Gill assures impartial action

New Delhi, Jul 26: The Sport Ministry has promised to deal with the sex scandals in the fields of hockey and weightlifting in an "impartial way".

“The Ministry will do what it has to in a professional and impartial way," Sports Minister MS Gill on Monday, Jul 26 told reporters outside the Parliament.

Sports Ministry is keeping a tab on the developments in the sexual harassment cases of the two sports, he informed.

Both the coaches of the sports accused of sexual harassment have already been suspended by the respective federations.

MK Kaushik, the veteran Hockey coach, has been suspended and the allegations levelled against him by the a member of the national women team has been referred to Delhi police for criminal probe.

Ramesh Malhotra, the weightlifting coach, has been suspended for the time being after the country's ace weightlifter Karnam Malleswari, who is now a vice-President in the Indian Weightlifting Federation, alleged that Malhotra harassed junior lifters for years.
