Sohrabuddin case: Ex-police officer turns approver
Ahmedabad, Jul 26: In what could prove to be a huge breakthrough for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the 2005 Sohrabuddin fake encounter case, a former police officer and an accused in the case, NK Amin, has decided to turn approver.
Amin's lawyer Jadgish Ramani announced this development after coming out of the CBI office in Gandhinagar on Monday, Jul 26.
“We are going to file an application in the CBI court on behalf of Amin to turn him into an approver in the (Sohrabuddin) case," he said adding that the application is likely to be filed later in the day at the CBI court here.
Amin turning into an approver could help the CBI in solving the case, which has gained more media limelight ever since the Gujarat Home Minister, Amit Shah has also been dragged into it.
Amin was arrested in 2007, before which he was the assistant commissioner of police (ACP) city crime branch.
He was arrested on the statement of a witness involved in the operation of abducting Sohrabuddin and his wife Kausar Bi.
Amin is currently in Sabarmati Central jail along with all other accused.
Rajesh Modi, another lawyer of the ex-police officer, said that there was threat to his client"s life from his co-accused, therefore an application for jail transfer is expected to be moved.
