Air travel 'poses no threat to heart patients'

London, July 25 (ANI): Air travel poses no threat to those with heart conditions, and even those with serious heart disease can fly if precautions are made, according to a new guideline issued by the British Cardiovascular Society.

"The cabin environment doesn't pose a significant risk to heart health," New Scientist quoted lead author David Smith at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust in the UK, as saying.

Smith said that the key for those with a pre-existing heart condition is to make sure that it is fully diagnosed and under control when you fly.

"It's down to how stable your condition is," he said.

For example, people who have recently suffered heart attacks should make sure they take their medication, avoid caffeine and alcohol, and walk regularly during the flight.

The advice is published in the journal Heart. (ANI)
