UK teachers too embarrassed to talk about sex

London, July 23 (ANI): Sex education has been one of the most important, yet underrated subject in schools - now, a watchdog report has revealed that teachers might be at fault.

According to a report by Ofsted, UK teachers skip or gloss over sex-ed lessons because they are 'too embarrassed' to teach the class.

The report said sex had been "squeezed out" from the curriculum because "since the topics were particularly sensitive, some teachers felt uncomfortable in teaching such demanding themes."

Sex education is either 'no better than satisfactory', 'inadequate' or 'too late and too limited to be of any use'.

Plans by Labour to add sex education to the National Curriculum and remove parents' right to withdraw children from lessons when they turn 15 were scrapped ahead of the general election.

In other schools children were given a good understanding about the mechanics of sex and puberty, but not taught about emotional development, relationships or marriage.

In fact, even ill effects of drugs and alcohol are just rudimentary.

"We want all young people to benefit from high quality PSHE teaching and we will take this report's findings into consideration as we continue to look at the curriculum across the board," The Telegraph quoted a spokesperson for the Department for Education, as saying. (ANI)
