London, July 23 (ANI): A club in Scotland has infuriated parents after it offered pole-dancing lessons to girls aged six.

The Up Yer Pole club has sparked outrage among worried parents and child-care campaigners after it started its under-16 classes for youngsters with even primary school kids allowed to take part.

One horrified mum, who emailed Lanarkshire-based Up Yer Pole for more info on their 5 pounds tutorials, said it verges on child porn.

"The lessons are promoted as a way to keep fit. But they're so closely linked to the sex industry that it's really sleazy," the Sun quoted her as saying.

"Kids of that age shouldn't be exposed to that sort of thing," she stated.

Children's charity Kidscape branded the classes "degrading" and called on them to be stopped.

"I am appalled. Having viewed their website I can say that these classes will sexualise youngsters at worst. Parts of the site verge on porn," deputy director Peter Bradley said.

Tory education spokeswoman Liz Smith has also blasted the plans, saying they are totally unacceptable.

But despite the plan not being welcomed, Up Yer Pole chief Pammy Cameron insisted the classes were not pole-dancing but "pole fit".

"These are gymnastic classes, although we will be using a pole. t is open to boys too," Cameron said.

"There are no sexy routines or provocative dance wear, it just so happens there's a pole involved," she added. (ANI)
