Rajasthan demands quota for backward classes
New Delhi, Jul 23: Rajasthan has become the only state requesting a 14 per cent quota for the economically backwards while other states have shot down the reservations for the poor.
This report was submitted to the Centre on Thursday, Jul 22.
The panel formed in Jul 2006 by the UPA government, had given consideration to “economically backward" whose annual income is below Rs 1.6 lakh and also exempted from paying tax.
A source in the National Commission said that most of the states have opposed any further quota for the poor.
