Pakistan must act against Mumbai attackers: US
Washington, Jul 23: US has suggested Pakistan to investigate the Mumbai terror attack and bring to justice to the people who are accountable for the crime, for its own and the entire region's benefit.
PJ Crowley, State Department spokesperson told media that US would go on discussing the matter with Pakistan about the need to probe the 26/11 carnage which claimed the lives of 166 people.
India had accused Lashkar e Toiba, the Pakistan-based terror outfit for masterminding the attack. The lone Pakistani gunman, Ajmal Kasab, who was captured alive following the raid has been awarded a death sentence by the court.
The trial against the seven suspects is going on in Pakistan. The seven suspects include LeT operations commander Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi. India has urged Islamabad to do more to bring the masterminds to book.
US policy is to fully cooperate with Pakistan on terrorism and to continue to work closely to aid Pakistan to combat the insurgency which is now a threat to themselves, said Crowley.
“We"ve seen significant progress by Pakistan over the past year. It"s an area that was part of the Strategic Dialogue that our governments just had in Islamabad," he said.
