'Pillai was factually right, but wrong on timing'
New Delhi, Jul 22: External Affairs Minister SM Krishna has finally broken his silence over the controversial remark made by GK Pillai on the ISI link to the Mumbai Terror Attacks 2008 by saying that the Home Secretary's remarks were factually right but the timing was "very unfortunate".
Ahead of the three-day Indo Pak talks, Pillai had spoken about the disclosures made by Headley to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (NIA) and Indian sleuths of National Investigative Agency (NIA).
The remarks dampened the mood of the talks as Pakistan expressed disappointment over it.
In his first response to the remarks, External Affairs Minister also admitted that whole visit to Pakistan was “underpinned" by Mr Pillai's remarks.
The talks at Foreign Minister level between SM Krishna and SM Qureshi concluded on a negative note with brickbats flying from both the sides.
However, Pillai's comments has also upset the Indian government as the Home Ministry has issued a gag order against him.
