Michelle Obama blooms as Barack sinks in popularity stakes

Washington, July 22 (ANI): The US First Lady Michelle Obama's popularity is growing day by day with American appreciating her far better than President Barack Obama, according to Quinnipiac University national poll.

According to the New York Post, the poll shows the president's job approval rating dropped to 44 percent approve, and 48 percent disapprove, a new low for Obama's net score. Nearly half, 49 percent, have a favorable opinion of him while 45 percent view him unfavorably.

However, Americans' opinion of Michelle Obama climbed to 55 percent favorable, 19 percent unfavorable from 50 percent -17 percent in November 2008.

She scored an 82 percent favorable rating among Democrats, with only 4 percent viewing her unfavorably.

Independents give her a 19 percent - 52 percent favorable rating. Republicans, however, generally view her negatively and therefore, 30 percent of them voted in favour of Michelle while 37 percent were unfavorable.

The poll has a margin of error of 2.1 percentage points. (ANI)
