Jnaneswari train sabotage involves 17 persons
Kolkata, Jul 21: The Jnaneswari train sabotage which took place on May 27 was involved by at least 17 people, the CBI told the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday
According to Indian Express report the accused names were revealed by Bapi Mahato, who was the mastermind behind this train disruption. Eight members have been arrested and are currently in Midnapore Central Jail, while nine of them are still absconding, SP, CBI, Arun Bothra told the court in an affidavit.
The affidavit pleaded that the CBI be permitted to produce the accused in the 14 Metropolitan Magistrate Court at Bankshall in Kolkata instead of in a Jhargram Court, as Maoists would attack the CBI team on the way to the Jhargram court.
When Justice Asim Kumar Roy asked the CBI for its view on transfering the accused to a court in Midnapore, Bothra said it was the agency"s “second choice".
Asish Roy, counsel of Bimal Mahato, one of the accused who was arrested along with Bapi on June 19, said he tendered if the production of the accused was transferred to the Midnapore court, but opposed to Kolkata transfer“as it will be difficult to arrange lawyers". But Justice Roy, assured of the lawyers arrangement for the accused.
