Melbourne, Jul 22: Just days after the brutal assault on an Indian on the streets of Melbourne was reported, another Indian student fell prey to a racially motivated attack in a crowded bus.

Three 'drunk' youngsters repeatedly hit 24-year-old Rajan Kumar Katkam and also threw chicken pieces at him in a packed bus in the afternoon.

"I was travelling on a bus to Rye from Frankston at 2:30 pm (local time) when three youths who were apparently drunk started harassing me," Rajan said.

Rajan, who has filed case with the office of Victims of Crime, recalled his assailants as saying "black people want to be equal and that's why they are getting bashed."

"The ordeal went on for 45 minutes and no one came to my rescue except one old lady who was kind enough to get up and asked those boys to stop it," he added.

But the white lady was asked to keep out.

Rajan landed in Melbourne in 2008 to study Graphics. He is now forced to return to India due to some health complications, which he claims were triggered off due to the attack on him.

President of Federation of Indian Association of Victoria (FIAV), Vasan Srinivasan, who has taken up the case, said, "Rajan has developed some neck and hand movement problems. We have requested his college to defer his course by a year and have booked his flight back on August 11."
