New Delhi, Jul 21: Kerala Police chief received a complaint from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) that Muslim families are being harassed in the state, reported an official on Tuesday, Jul 20.
NHRC alleged that the police is harassing some Muslim families in the guise of investigating an attack on TJ Joseph, a professor of Newman's College. NHRC has asked Police, for the report of the investigation with in two weeks.
The professor was attacked and his right hand was chopped off by some assailants, suspected to be Popular Front of India (PFI) activists, for allegedly preparing a question paper with derogatory references to Prophet Mohammad.
NHRC statement said that the Muslim families are being harassed by frequent searches and seizure of various items from their houses. The complaint was registered by NM Siddhiq, president of the National Confederation of Human Rights Organizations.
