Mamata requests to stop anti-Maoist operations
Kolkata, Jul 21: Mamata Banerjee, Trinamool Congress chief requested Central Government to stop the anti-Maoist operations in West Bengal alleging that the ruling CPI (M) was 'conducting its own operation' in its distinctive style. She was advocating a rally in West Bengal on Wednesday, Jul 21.
“I
urge
the
Centre
to
stop
the
joint-operations
because
in
its
name,
the
CPI(M)
is
conducting
its
own
operations.
I
will
meet
Prime
Minister
Mammohan
Singh
and
appeal
to
him.
He
is
a
good
man.
I
believe
he
will
listen," said
Mamata.
The rally was held to commemorate the 'Martyrs Day' of 13 Youth Congress workers who lost their lives in the police firing on Jul 21, 1993. Mamata Banerjee was the Youth Congress President at that time.
Mamata also alleged that the atrocities were being committed on tribal people in the name of anti-Maoist operations, at the behest of CPI (M). She added that CPI (M) was supplying arms to party cadres in the name of such operations and setting up camps in Lalgarh and Salboni to terrorize people.
