Home ministry imposes gag order on Pillai
New Delhi, Jul 21: Home secretary G K Pillai received a gag order from the union government for not to disclose anything in front of media.
After the Indo-Pak talk in Islamabad on July 2010, Pillai made several comments on the related issues.
He said that Pakistan"s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) had played a “very significant role" in the terror attacks on Mumbai.
National security advisor Shivshankar Menon, however, gave statements, which was similar with Pillai.
Menon said, "clearer picture has emerged of the ecosystem that supports terrorism."
According to DNA, the prime minister was upset with the timing of Pillai"s statement, which was made while the Indo-Pak conference was under way, rather than what he said.
According the daily, the gag order had been taken under pressure from across the border.
"It should have been avoided at this juncture though possibly the order may not even be related to the talks," said a source to the daily.
However, home minister's order without taking the name of Pillai stated that DRS Chaudhary, an additional secretary in the ministry, would interact with the media "till further orders."
