Meerut (Uttar Pradesh), July 20 (ANI): Nine prisoners, including seven serving life terms, fled from Uttar Pradesh's Meerut city jail after scaling the boundary wall on Tuesday.

The jail warden found a ladder at around 6 a.m. that the prisoners used to jump the 15-feet-long boundary wall of the jail.

District Magistrate Bhuvaneshwar Singh said that out of the nine, seven inmates were sentenced to life imprisonment, while two were under trials.

"Total nine prisoners jail broke out, in which seven were convicted to life imprisonment and two were under trial. All the officials, who were doing duty during night and early morning are suspended, and reports filed for officials serving high designation," said Singh.

Police Commissioner Shravan Kumar Sharma said a magisterial inquiry has been ordered for the incident.
