Maha Congress leaders meet Sonia over Belgaum
New Delhi, Jul 17: Led by Maharashtra Chief Minister, Ashok Chavan, a delegation of state Congress leaders met UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi over the border row with Karnataka.
Congress chief was apprised of the situation in the state in the wake of the conflict over Belgaum. The delegation has sought appointment of a National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) team to tour the disputed areas in Karnataka where Marathi-speaking people were allegedly being harassed by the state government.
"All aspects and problems of Maharashtra were discussed," said state Congress chief Manikrao Thakre.
When asked about his earlier demand for the union territory status for the 865 disputed villages in Karnataka, Ashok Chavan said, "The demand for UT status remains. But it was not raised in the discussions with Gandhi."
