By Samyuktha

New Delhi, Jul 15: Shuttler Saina Nehwal continues to jump in leaps closer towards the top spot on the world badminton charts with the newest high being world number two.

In latest world badminton rankings released on Thursday, Jul 15, Saina claimed the second spot. Now, the Hyderabad girl is only kept away from the numero uno status by China's Yihan Wang.

Few weeks back, India was treated to the news that the country's ace shuttler had reached her career's best world number three ranking on her back-to-back victories at Singapore Open and India Open Grand Prix.

When her world ranking was appraised the 20-year-old star was playing the quarterfinals at Indonesian Open. The defending champion later regained her title after thrashing Japan's Sayaka Sato by 21-19, 13-21, 21-11 in the 45 minute long finals at Jakarta.

Before her jump to the third spot on the Badminton World Federation ranking, the Indian ranked sixth.

Saina also holds the record of being the first Indian woman to reach the singles quarterfinals at the Olympics.
