Patient kills one, injures three in Kochi hospital
Kochi, Jul 14: A patient admitted to the hospital due to cold and fever lose the temparament and killed another inmate in Kochi at around 2:30 am on Wednesday, Jul 14.
Shamsu, who was admitted to the chronic ward where they can undergo treatment without bystanders. He assaulted Joy, 83 from Chellanam. He used a stick used by the victim to support while walking as he did not have left leg. Joy finally died due to the head injury and severe internal bleeding due to the attack.
The hospital authorities said that the all the efforts made by them to detain Shamsu failed. Three others out of 12 who were in the ward at that time got injured. Joy, tried to escape when the ward was opened by the hospital staff, but failed as he was overpowered and brought under control.
Shamsu, from Thuruthy Colony of Fort Kochi has the history of convictions in theft cases. Hospital authorities said that he might have had the withdrawal symptoms as he was refrained from alcohol for three days to become violent.
Police registered the case and took the accused to custody.
