2 RSS leaders protect Ajmer blast accused
New Delhi, Jul 10: Two Uttar Pradesh RSS functionaries gave shelter to an Ajmer blast accused, claimed CBI, conducting an internal probe of Ajmer blast case.
Ashok Varshney and Ashok Beri confessed before CBI that they were in touch with Devendra Gupta, one of the Ajmer blast accused, while he was on the run.
Varshney, a former head of the Lucknow city unit of the RSS, now heads the Kanpur prant of the organisation.
Beri earlier was the head of the UP unit of the RSS and now elevated to the national executive of the RSS.
A CBI officer in Delhi said that Varshney and Beri were questioned in the presence of Gupta.
According the CBI officer, Varshney admitted that he arranged for Gupta's stay in Kanpur during Oct and Nov 2009.
Gupta told CBI that it was Beri who organized accommodation for him in Lucknow and Sitapur during the same period.
The officer also said that Beri did not confess anything yet.
Gupta left for Muzaffarpur in Bihar and attended a RSS function there on Dec 25 2009.
The officer also claimed that Beri and Varshney were in touch with Gupta during his stay in Bihar and Jharkhand too.
