Floods in Haryana, Punjab: Army to rescue

Ambala, Jul 9: The flood situation in three districts of Haryana and two districts of Punjab continued to suffer without proper arrangements of food, water and due to complete power failure. Army is engaged in rescue and relief operations in the flood affected areas.

Districts like Ambal and Kurukshetra in Haryana continued to be under water for the third day. Many villages in Ambala districts are the worst affected. some areas have 3 to 5 feet water.

Flood alert has been issued in Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Baghpat, Meerut, Aligarh, Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, Hathras and Mathura districts.

Schools are shut, train services were also severely hit in the last three days due to flooding of tracks. So far hundreds of acres of agricultural land remaining under water.

According to the sources six deaths have taken place in Punjab and five in Haryana, two people washed away in flood, three youngsters drowned in flood waters near Mullanpur village in Punjab's Mohali district.

A mini truck has been made available for every two villages to carry eatables and other materials. Ropes and candles are also being made available.

Due to water level rising of Yamuna and Ganga a flood alert has been announced in ten districts of western Uttar Pradesh.
