Facebook reaching close to Orkut
New York, Jul 9: A new media survey revealed that social networking service Facebook is gaining more popularity in India.
The research reported that Facebook is growing rapidly around the world and even catching up with Orkut in India and Brazil.
In different countries like India and Brazil, Google's social networking site Orkut dominated the scene for a long time. But the new study reports that Facebook is pulling even with Orkut where only a year ago it was more than twice as large as Facebook.
Facebook has grown to eight million users in Brazil, 123 million users in United States, 11 million users in Mexico and 19 million users in Germany.
"Facebook users will reach one billion people," said Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook.
The report described the main reason for the global expansion of Facebook is their effort to make the network available in different languages.
