'Crime dropped in South Africa during World Cup'

By Super Admin

Johannesburg, July 9(ANI): South African security officials have said that visible policing in Pretoria and Johannesburg saw a significant drop in violent crime during the FIFA World Cup.

"Break-ins at houses in the south of Pretoria and Centurion decreased significantly," Sport24 quoted Clive Humphrey, ADT security company's Managing Director, as saying.

ADT Johannesburg head Roy Rawlins said that in the western parts of Johannesburg, crime reports decreased by 70 percent, while the eastern parts saw a 60 percent drop.

He said it was due to "visible policing combined with the strategic use of resources for the World Cup".

Meanwhile, police spokesperson Colonel Vishnu Naidoo confirmed that the World Cup saw a drop in crime. (ANI)
