Indians pocket one-third of H-1B visas in 2009
Washington, Jul 8: Despite subdued response to the most sought after US work visas over the past two years due to recession, Indians have set a new record by pocketing over one-third of the H-1B visas for the year 2009.
Out of a total of 339,243, 123,002 were issued to Indians in the fiscal 2009, informed the Department of Homeland Security.
This number accounts for over 36.3 per cent of the total H-1B visas issued in the fiscal.
However, the drop in the total number of H-1B visas issued to Indians has maintained a drop. Compared to the response in 2007, the number has dropped by a fifth in 2009. This accounts for drop of 34,000 H-1B visas in number.
However, India continues to be the leading country to get the maximum number of this category of work visas for professionals, the official data revealed.
