Dalai Lama celebrates 75th birthday
Dharamsala, Jul 6: Tibetan exiles celebrated spiritual leader Dalai Lama's 75th birthday in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh.
Birthday celebrations and special prayers were organized at the Tsuglagkhang temple, which is is close to the official palace of the Dalai Lama at McLeodganj. About thousands of Tibetan exiles participated in the celebrations.
"Special prayer sessions were held for the well being and long life of the Dalai Lama," said Thubten Samphel, a spokesperson for the government-in-exile.
"His Holiness attended the prayers and blessed his followers from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The 17th Karmapa, Ugyen Trinley Dorjee, also attended the function," he added.
The Kashag (Tibetan cabinet) prayed for the Dalai Lama"s long life and a group of Chinese from Australia greeted Dalai Lama on the occasion.
Dalai Lama won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 for his non violent struggle for Tibet and still he continues to travel throughout the world, meeting presidents, prime ministers and rulers of various countries and giving his teachings on Buddhism.
