Kabul, Jul 7: NATO killed five of its Afghan army allies mistakenly during an air-strike on Wednesday, Jul 7 while the Afghans were attacking the insurgents in the country's east, informed the officials.
Five Afghan soldiers were killed and two got injured in the attack when NATO aircraft began firing on Afghan soldiers without warning. Afghan soldiers were launching a morning ambush against the insurgents reportedly on the move in Ghazni province when NATO launched the attack, informed General Mohammad Zahir Azimi, the Afghan Defence Ministry spokesperson.
Afghan Defence Ministry condemned the death of its soldiers which came at a time when NATO is attempting to improve the coordination with the Afghan soldiers inorder to ensure more security to them.
NATO spokesperson, confirmed the spoilt attack and said he regretted the deaths. He added that a joint investigation has been launched.
