India tests short range Astra missile

Bhubaneswar, Jul 7: The short-range Astra air-to-air missile was test-fired again from a defense base in Orissa on Wednesday, Jul 7, informed the defense sources. The high-end tactical missile is being test-fired for the second time in two days.

Astra missile was tested at 2:02 pm from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, in the district of Balasore, around 230 kms from state capital Bhubaneswar.

Astra, the beyond visual range missile is envisaged to intercept enemy aircraft at supersonic speeds in head-on mode at a short range of 80 km and in tail-chase mode at 20 km.

The missile was tested first time on Tuesday, Jul 6 at night. The director of the test range, SP Dash said that they are analyzing the data of both the tests.
