New Delhi, July 5 (ANI): Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar on Monday said the Government's response to Comptroller and Auditor General's (CAG) reports is sluggish.
"A recent report, that is the 11th report of the Public Accounts Committee, 15th Lok Sabha presented to Parliament House, however, shows that the response of the Ministries in taking action on the CAG's reports has not been very encouraging," said Kumar.
"I understand that the response of state government executives in taking remedial action on CAG's reports is also equally sluggish, she added, while addressing the National Seminar on Legislature - Audit Interface here.
Kumar emphasized that transparency and accountability were the driving forces for good governance, as people were also expecting the same.
"Some very effective and concrete measures need to be taken both by the government and the state legislatures to address this situation. Apart of empowering the financial committees, there is a need to build a capacity to examine technicalities involved in financial dealings," said Kumar.
"Both the members of such committees and the secretariat staff supporting them need to go through a highly professional orientation programmes," she added.
Kumar further said the tasks of the financial committees and the CAG have become more extensive and complex in modern times because of ever-increasing government spending. (ANI)
