Zvonareva's 'scream' mantra to slay Serena at Wimbledon

By Samyuktha

London, July 3(ANI): Russian tennis ace Vera Zvonareva has said that she is willing to get vocal or break a racquet during the Wimbledon final against World No. 1 Serena Williams if it helps her defeat the defending champion.

"If I need to scream, pump myself up or break a racket I will do. If I know it will help me to perform better, why not? Emotions are good and they should be there, it is sport after all. It shows you care, that you are trying your best," The Sun quoted Zvonareva, as saying.

"John McEnroe used to do what he wanted and rarely got fined or penalised. Sometimes they are too strict now. A little show of emotion is good and should be there otherwise we will become like robots," she added.

The 25-year-old further insists that with experience and maturity, "I have learned a lot about myself and know when to pump myself up and when to calm down."

Zvonareva reached the final following a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova in the semi final.

She had fought back from a set down to subdue Pironkova, and book the first grand slam final of her career.

The Russian is also confident that she can cause an upset on the Centre Court.

"Serena is No 1 in the world and has a good all-round game, but she has lost matches in the past and it's always possible to beat her," Zvonareva said.

"I'll just have to try to play the game that's bothering her the most," she added. (ANI)
