Panaji, Jul 3: Two days after the Supreme Court squashed Fransisco Pacheco's anticipatory bail plea, the former Goa Tourism Minister on Saturday, Jul 3 surrendered before Sessions Court in Margao.
Pacheco is a suspect in the case of the mysterious death of his female friend, Nadia Torrado. Nadia died on May 30 in a Chennai hospital, 15 days after she attempted suicide by consuming poison.
However, on demands for a probe into the 28-year-old friend of Pacheco, he was summoned by the crime branch. Pacheco immediately resigned and has been absconding ever since.
The NCP leader's lawyer Amit Palekar had on Friday, Jul 2, stated, "Pacheco will make himself available to the Crime Branch tomorrow morning (Saturday, Jul 3)."
On Thursday, Jul 1, the apex court rejected bail to Pacheco citing that he could meddle with the probe with his "political clout".
