Medical courses in Tamil from 2011: TN Minister
Villupuram, Jul 3: In a move that is yet again going to give the debate on politics of language in Tamil Nadu a rebirth, the state education ministry has announced that engineering courses from the current academic year 2010-11 and medical courses from the next academic year 2011-12 will be available in Tamil medium.
Speaking at a function here on Friday, Jul 2, Higher Education Minister K Ponmudy announced that Tamil medium has been introduced in engineering courses and the same will be available in medical studies from 2011.
Stating that a revolution of sorts was taking place in the educational field in the Karunanidhi regime, the education minister praised the announcement made by the Chief Minister during the recently held World Classical Tamil Conference that priority would be accorded in jobs to those who studied in Tamil.
English could be the link language but Tamil should be the medium of instruction, The Hindu quoted Ponmudy as saying.
