Honour killings: Probe panel mooted
New Delhi, Jul 3: Minister of State for Women and Child Development Krishna Tirath has identified the need to study the disturbing trend of 'honour killing' being seen across the country.
“The issue is why honour killings take place. It is a social evil and I am in favour of a study on it," Ms Tirath said after meeting Home Minister P Chidambaram over the issue.
According to a report in The Hindu, a probe panel consisting of women experts, to study the brutal killings of youngsters who marry against caste-norms, has been mooted.
The committee will also be expected to suggest remedial measures.
The much-needed step comes in the wake of the spurt in murders of youngsters, to dare to marry against their families wishes. It is the family members of the couple who indulge in killing for 'honour'.
