Pretoria, Jul 2: As expected, Argentina coach Diego Maradona has hit back at German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger for accusing the Argentines of being disrespectful towards their opponents and referees.
"What's the matter with you, Schweinsteiger, are you nervous?" Mardona retorted.
In an interview with Fox Sports, Maradona said, "We don't have time to think about Schweinsteiger."
"The players are thinking about going onto the pitch, in getting their revenge," he added referring to the 2006 quarter-final defeat in Berlin when Germany ousted Argentina in a penalty shoot-out.
Schweinsteiger had also recalled the shootout four years back when chaotic scenes followed the defeat of Argentina.
"The shootout is still in our memory, but what really weighs heavily on our minds is what happened after that match," Schweinsteiger had said on Wednesday, Jun 30, adding, "We have to remain calm and not get provoked, and I hope the referee will be very alert."
In response to this, Maradona remarked, "I'm not worried about what they say about the penalties, the kicks. We're going to go and beat them in their half."
