London, Jul 1 (ANI): Portugal skipper Cristiano Ronaldo tried to back track from his statement after his team's shameful exit from the 2010 World Cup.

He spat towards a TV camera after Portugal's 1-0 defeat by Spain.

And when asked why his side had gone out, Ronaldo replied: "Ask Queiroz."

But on Wednesday he said: "When I said to ask the coach it was simply because Carlos Queiroz was at a Press conference and journalists could hear his explanations and I did not feel in the right condition to explain what happened."

"I never thought these simple and innocent words could cause so much controversy," The Sun quoted Ronaldo, as saying. (ANI)
