Kashmir continues to remain tense following overnight clashes

Jammu, June 30 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir continued to be tense on Wednesday, a day after three teenagers were killed in police firing in Anantnag District.

Curfew is still in place in most areas, including Sopore, Anantnag and Baramulla Districts.

Restrictions under Section 144, which prohibit the assembly of over four persons, are in place in and around Srinagar and Baramulla Districts.

Additional security forces have been deployed in Sopore, Baramulla and downtown Srinagar.

At least eight people have been killed in firing in the valley over the last five days.n Monday, two were killed in different engagements with security forces in Baramulla and Sopore Districts.

Mobile services were also suspended in North Kashmir and SMS services were blocked in the valley. Sources said this had been done to stop rumour mongering in an already incendiary situation.

Police have identified two of the three killed as Tariq Ahmed Rather and Tajamul Ahmad Bhat.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has invited Union Home Minister P Chidambaram to visit the state to review security and take steps to end the violence. (ANI).
