Clash for Semi-final berth

By Anmolg

As the FIFA World Cup enters the quarter-final stage, the heat will grow more and more amongst the players.

The quarter-finals is scheduled to start from July 2 till July 3 and is set to be a treat for World Cup fans with teams like Argentina, Germany clashing against each other.

Ghana Vs Uruguay

Ghana has come good this time around. The talented bunch of Black stars has managed to make it to the quarter finals and will be facing off against Uruguay on Friday.

Ghana, the last African representative at the World Cup, will be without suspended players Jonathan Mensah and Andre Ayew. African nations have never made it till the semi-final stage and this will be a good chance for Ghana to script history by beating Uruguay.

The 16th-ranked Uruguay is listed 16 places higher than Ghana by FIFA, but is appearing in the quarterfinals for the first time in 40 years.

Diego Forlan and Luis Suarez has been exceptional for the Uruguayans and will be hopeful of taking Uruguay to the semi finals of the World Cup with a win against Ghana.

Argentina Vs Germany

The classic encounter between the two nations is set to treat millions of fans across the globe. Argentina who lost against Germany in the quarter-finals in a penalty shootout in 2006, will be keen to avenge their defeat against the Germans and progress to the semi-finals.

Messi who has been in sublime form even though he has not found even a single goal will be on a hunt to find his first and help his team progress to the semi-finals.

His attacking play has worried most defenders, creating space and opportunities for his teammates.

Germany on the other side have come out well with a victory against England in the round of 16 and will be hoping to upset the Argentinians one more time and set their place in the semi-final stage. Klose who recently matched Pele's record of all-time goal scorers in world cup competition will be set to overhaul him and extend his record of number of World Cup goals. He has scored 2 goals so far in this tournament and will be hoping to add more for his team.

Netherlands Vs Brazil

The Samba boys will be up against the Dutch team who has had a solid performances coming into the match. Arjen Robben will be the man to watch out for with his match-winning goal in their clash against Slovakia in his return match.

The Samba boys are ofcourse the favorites to win, with so much talent in their line-up and bench strength as well, they have a slight upperhand. They are undefeated coming into the match and will be up against a tough Dutch side who has been finding good success of late.

Brazilians under 1994 winning captain/ present coach Dunga will be hopeful of taking a right approach towards the game and seal a win and head one step closer towards the finals.

Spain Vs Paraguay

Under-performers Spain have a good chance to prove their critics wrong when they face off against Paraguay for a berth in the semi-final stage. Spain after their initial hiccup, a loss against Switzerland in the group stages have made a strong comeback with three successive wins.

Their last one being the most impressive one, knocking out Portugal after dominating the game against them. Coming into the World Cup, the Spanish side alongside Brazil was tipped to win the World Cup by many pundits, football gurus and as of now they seem to be on the right track.

But Paraguay is no easy side, they have come a long way as well, infact created history by making it for the first time in the quarter-final stages. They will be hoping to extend their good run of form and will surely give la furia roja boys a tough run for their money.
