No room for Rudd in Gillard's new cabinet
Canberra, June 28 (ANI): Former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has missed out on a Cabinet position in a limited reshuffle by his successor Julia Gillard.
The new cabinet announced by Gillard today, includes Simon Crean as Minister for education, employment and workplace relations and social inclusion, taking over Ms Gillard's old portfolios.
Stephen Smith has been given the trade portfolio, along with his foreign affairs role.
According to News.com.au, Gillard said that Rudd has been offered a role as a senior minister if the Government is re-elected.
"Consequently what I have said to Kevin Rudd is I would be absolutely delighted to see him serve as a senior cabinet minister in the team if the government is re-elected," she said.
"I am not making any assumptions about what will happen on election day, but if the Government is re-elected, I will be very delighted to welcome Kevin Rudd into the Cabinet in a senior position," she added. (ANI)
